At least nine members of a family perished on Sunday when their house caught fire in the Tarhi village area of Abbottabad district.
Police said the family members succumbed to burn injuries. The owner of the residence was identified as Zakir Abbasi.
Local Councillor Khaqan Abbasi said Nagina Begum, Zakir’s wife, along with her four sons and four daughters were among the victims.
The head of the deceased family, Zakir Abbasi is a resident in Karachi. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This year, in a similar horrific incident, 10 members of a family, including four women and children, died, according to officials, of suffocation after a fire erupted in a three-storey building in Samian Mohallah at Taxali Gate in Lahore.
Reportedly, the fire broke out at around 2 am. The victims were asleep at that time in their three-storey residence.
Three families were living in the building; three rooms were stacked on top of each other, making it a three-storey building.
