‘Martial law imposers’ should apologise first: Achakzai

ISLAMABAD:

In an address at a seminar in Islamabad on Wednesday, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, President of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), called for an apology from those who imposed martial law in Pakistan before seeking an apology from those involved in May 9 events, Express News reported.

The seminar saw Achakzai emphasising the need for constitutional supremacy and labelling the fight against unconstitutional measures as a form of “jihad” necessary for the nation’s true freedom.

“Imposers of martial law in the country should apologise first, then I will ask the people behind the May 9th incident to apologise,” Achakzai asserted.

“The problems will not be solved till the time the institutions do not stay within their defined limits, now we have to be bold and make reforms,” Achakzai added.

During his speech, he highlighted the lack of consequences for those involved in previous instances of martial law imposition in the country.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan echoed Achakzai’s sentiments, demanding an apology for being labelled as a ‘conspiracy gang’. He dismissed allegations made against PTI, stressing the importance of constitutional reforms.

Referring to recent events, Gohar Khan said, “Constitution has practically seized in the country.” He reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to constitutional support and denied allegations of colluding with external forces.

Senior PTI leader Omar Ayub demanded transparency in various incidents, including the Army Public School incident, senior journalist Arshad Sharif’s assassination, and the Abbottabad Commission report. He questioned the powers of DG ISPR for negotiations and reiterated PTI’s stance on upholding law and Constitution.

Sardar Latif Khosa of PTI emphasised that adherence to the Constitution is mandatory for all, including the army chief and chief justice.

Asad Qaiser, another senior PTI leader, urged all institutions to stay within their domains and demanded judicial inquiries into allegations against PTI.

Allama Nasir Abbas of Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen labelled the constitution as “oppressed” and blamed external forces for benefiting from recent incidents.

The seminar concluded with a declaration urging the upholding of the Constitution and denouncing forced disappearances. Opposition leaders announced countrywide peaceful protests to safeguard parliamentary autonomy.
