Islamabad:Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has responded swiftly to the tragic death of a medical student at Avicenna Medical College Lahore, allegedly due to misconduct and mistreatment by college staff. The council has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

PMDC, Pakistan’s top regulatory body for medical education, expressed deep sadness over the loss of the promising student and offered condolences to the bereaved family.

Taking notice of the alleged misconduct, PMDC, committed to upholding ethical standards, has begun a thorough investigation to determine the facts. The council has sought a detailed response from Avicenna Medical College on a priority basis. “We are deeply concerned about the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and are committed to ensuring justice is served,” said PM&DC President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj. “Student well-being is paramount, and any misconduct or mistreatment will not be tolerated. The deceased’s family is welcome to file a complaint with us.”

The investigation will focus on evaluating the college’s institutional practices and policies concerning student welfare to ensure compliance with regulations. PM&DC will collaborate with relevant authorities to implement measures preventing similar incidents and fostering a supportive learning environment for medical students nationwide.
