In an apparent move to detach itself from its alleged violent past, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has forbidden its workers to carry or display firearms, warning that the violators of this policy would be expelled from the party.

A circular dated February 13 was issued by the party internally. It asserted that the MQM-P was a peaceful political party and it had restricted any display or use of firearms by its workers.
It added that any worker who was found involved in displaying weapons or firing would be expelled from the party. According to sources, the circular was issued after a video of party workers resorting to firing in the air on a road near the Rado Bakery in Gulistan-e-Jauhar went viral begetting criticism from the public.
