Campaign in UK warns against ties with India

LONDON:

A digital campaign was launched in the UK to warn the British government and international community against continuing relations and trade with India which is involved in war crimes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Led by Tehreek-e-Kashmir (TeK) UK, pro-Kashmir, pro-human rights slogans were broadcast on digital vans in the English capital London since Monday which also marked Kashmir Solidarity Day.

The vans drove around the British Parliament, and diplomatic missions of India, the US, Canada, France, China and others. “Trade with India is not fine when human rights are on decline,” read one slogan, while another said that implementation of UN resolutions in IIOJK was the “only solution” to free the disputed region.

Emphasising that Kashmiris have rejected India in the past and continue to do so today, TeK UK leader Fahim Kayani said: “Running digital campaigns to highlight the struggle for the right to self-determination of Kashmiris is a peaceful way to end the occupation by India in Kashmir.”

“International law and the UN Charter grant this right to everyone but India has been suppressing this peaceful demonstration by beleaguered people in the occupied Kashmir which is a blatant violation,” he added.

Kashmiris, Kayani said, “are not demanding anything alien.”

“The US, the UK, and France, which are part of P5 nations (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council), know it pretty well and must uphold the rule of law when it comes to Kashmir,” Kayani added.

Regretting that geopolitical interests were given preference over respect to the UN Charter, Kayani warned any delay in ending Indian occupation of Kashmir “may result in a situation which would be beyond our control as the UN-designated region is surrounded by three nuclear-armed nations.”

Kayani paid tribute to the sacrifices of Kashmiris and said: “We will never forget Kashmiri political prisoners.”

“India might have imposed graveyard silence in occupied Kashmir, but we, Kashmiri diaspora and our conscious allies will never let the world forget about Kashmir and our struggle for freedom from India.”
