MULTAN:

Experts addressing an artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT) conference called for increased global collaboration to address the challenges posed by the rapid development of the sector.

Addressing the conference organised at Women University Multan on Sunday, Vice Chancellor Professor Kulsoom Paracha highlighted the positive impact of AI on human consciousness and task efficiency.

She acknowledged the need for international cooperation, particularly in cybersecurity, as the growing development of Al introduces new security concerns, especially cybercrimes.

Dr Paracha stressed the transformative potential of AI in accelerating the development of underdeveloped countries but also warned of job displacement like that observed during the industrial revolution.

Anticipating significant job shifts due to AI, she raised concern about potential competition for resources and misuse of the technology. As per experts, nearly 300 million people will lose their jobs, she warned.

Other speakers advocated new laws and robust ethical frameworks to regulate and limit the AI. “We will have to move forward along with the world with modern concepts,” a participant said. AI will revolutionise the world. Pakistan will have to contribute its share in this revolution, Dr Paracha said.
