Pro-Palestinian protesters block travel and traffic at JFK: Letters

The Issue: The protest at JFK airport where pro-Palestinian demonstrators blocked traffic.

A caravan of pro-Palestinian protesters in cars stopped people on the Belt Parkway trying to make their way to JFK airport (“Air traffic jam,” Dec. 2).

I thought that it was a crime to stop traffic in this manner, akin to that of all the other unlawful protests throughout the city — disrupting holiday events, blocking streets, defacing public property and assaulting police officers.

These protests are hotbeds for such crimes and thus should be halted immediately.
Mayor Adams and Gov. Hochul should allow the NYPD to arrest everyone involved and put an end to these protests once and for all.

The recent protests at JFK give me hope for humanity. As we watch a genocide unfold on our screens — funded almost entirely by our tax dollars — we can often feel powerless.

By some estimates, most Americans support an immediate ceasefire. Yet the United States has vetoed UN resolutions for an immediate ceasefire. Now the Biden administration has bypassed congressional approval to fast-track weapons to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s war effort. Our government has spoken — it doesn’t care about our collective cries for peace.

Instead it aims to silence us and smother our attempts to oppose the brutal Israeli occupation and slaughter of Palestinians with anti-boycott legislation, mass arrests and media suppression. We are expected to just keep our heads down.

By disrupting traffic and airport travel, these brave protesters are sending a message that can’t be ignored: There should be no “business as usual” until the United States stops funding Israel’s war.
The frustration of airport delays pales in comparison to Palestinians’ suffering. Angry drivers can reflect on how it feels to be in Gaza right now — trapped in by Israeli forces who are bombing “evacuation routes” among other war crimes.

Here’s how to solve the Hamas protest problem. Instead of giving the protesters simple “desk appearance tickets,” we should jail the violators in Rikers Island for a month.

As a loyal Post reader I am outraged by the blatant pro-Israeli bias in this article.

The language used is disappointing, to say the least. To label peaceful protesters resisting a terribly destructive war as “hateful” is inaccurate.

It is truly despicable for these Israel-hating protesters to block roads to both the JFK and LaGuardia airports. They think it’s all fun and games to inconvenience thousands of travelers on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Now imagine these haters with guns, rockets and bombs living in Gaza. Then they would have to face what Israel contends with every day.

So you want to tie up traffic in support of Hamas? If so, perhaps the NYPD could help by disabling the front tires of the protesters’ cars before towing them away.

I think the protests at JFK represent the spirit of America, akin to the Montgomery bus boycotts of the Civil Rights era.

The article quotes the JFK travelers as having the right to travel and comfort. At the same time 30,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed since Oct. 7. So I ask — how do the deaths of Palestinian children contribute to American safety and comfort?

To those declaring the innocence of the JFK travelers, how innocent can we as Americans be when our taxes fund child murder in Gaza? Images of this are available for everyone to see.

The next time your flight is delayed imagine what is like to be helpless — like those in Gaza. A million Palestinians risk starvation and our government is on the hook for it.
