Chicago police said a man died in a crash early Friday after the suspect sexually assaulted, robbed and stabbed victims during a frenetic crime spree.
Authorities said the suspect, an unidentified man in his 20s, was killed when he was thrown from his vehicle around 3 a.m. Friday following the crash near the Bridgeport neighborhood.
Two women who police said were held hostage in the car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the suspect began his violent spree around 2:45 a.m., when he sexually assaulted a 48-year-old woman at knifepoint inside an apartment building.
He then came across two 27-year-old women and forced all three victims into an apartment and robbed them, police said.
A 27-year-old man walked into the apartment shortly afterward, and authorities said he was robbed at knifepoint. The 48-year-old woman escaped around that time.
The suspect ordered the three remaining captives into a car and drove to a nearby Subway restaurant, police said.
He forced the male victim out of the car and into the restaurant, where police said he stabbed a Subway employee and took cash from the register.
The suspect sped off from the restaurant without the male victim and crashed into a Chicago police cruiser soon after.
The suspect died in another crash moments later, according to police.
