Police secure Khadija Shah’s 7-day remand

QUETTA:

Renowned fashion designer and artist Khadija Shah appeared before the court in Quetta on Friday, where the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) extended her remand in police custody for another seven days.

Police had initially requested the court to grant 14-day remand of the fashion designer. However, the ATC judge Quetta rejected the police request and ordered the extension of seven-day remand.

She was produced before the Quetta ATC amid tight security by police.

Iqbal Shah Advocate, representing Khadija Shah, informed the court that the ATC judge not only extended Shah’s remand but also instructed the police to facilitate her meeting with her children. Additionally, he highlighted that the arrest of the renowned designer and artist has been challenged by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Bijli Road Police Station Quetta had registered a first information report (FIR) against Khadija Shah in connection with her alleged role in the May 9 incidents.

Khadija Shah was transferred to Balochistan police by Lahore police the other day and subsequently brought to the provincial capital.

On December 12, the Lahore High Court (LHC), dismissing appeals from fashion designer Khadija Shah’s counsel to suspend the ATC order granting her transit remand to Balochistan police, directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide an explanation on how she was taken away despite her production order.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi presided over the plea filed by Jehanzeb Amin, Khadija Shah’s husband, challenging the detention order of his wife.

The plea sought a restraining order against removing or transferring her from Lahore’s jurisdiction or within the jurisdiction of the LHC. Previous proceedings had Justice Najafi reserving a decision after detailed arguments from Shah’s counsel and the law officer.
