Single engine plane crashes near Zephyrhills Municipal Airport in Florida, injuring 2

Two people aboard a single-engine Cessna C172 were injured this week when their plane crashed near Zephyrhills Municipal Airport in Zephyrhills, Florida.

The wreck occurred around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Zephyrhills Police Department and Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, taking the two plane’s occupants to the hospital with serious injuries, police posted on X.

Fire officials specified to Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA-TV that one of the people was airlifted while the other was taken via ambulance. 

Neither law enforcement nor fire officials have identified the two people aboard the plane, which is registered with Kingsky Flight Academy in Lakeland, according to WFLA-TV.

Police posted photos of the plane after the crash, showing its tail stuck in trees and the nose of the plane heavily damaged.

The FAA and NTSB have been requested to the scene to complete the crash investigation.

The National Transportation Safety Board is in charge of further investigation into the crash, the FAA wrote on its website.
