Heritage experts call for preserving Birhmanabad


HYDERABAD:

Researchers, writers, journalists, and heritage experts have expressed their concern over the destruction and incomplete excavation of the 3,000-year-old archaeological site Birhmanabad.

Mehran Historical and Cultural Welfare Society, Tando Adam arranged a Study Tour of Birhmanabad for the researchers, writers, journalists, heritage experts. On this occasion, heritage experts, researchers and writers Atif Ali Shaikh, Advocate Aijaz Magsi, Jaanan Sindhi, Ashiq Hussain Sand, Riaz Hussain Sanjrani, Yad Hussain Shaikh, Allah Dad Mari, Zohail Achar Khaskheli sharing their views with media said that Birhmanabad, the oldest known historical site in Sindh dating back to 3,000 years, was falling into rack and ruins due to lack of proper attention.

They said official apathy was destroying the glory of the heritage. They said that excavation had been carried out several times on this site and a lot of historical items were found which were being placed in the different museums in Pakistan as well as in foreign countries. Experts stressed the need for carrying out excavation on a scientific basis so that local and international students and researchers could understand its history and culture from a civilization point of view. They further said that government and people should play a vital role in the preservation and ownership.

Research and experts also passed a resolution to retrieve illegal occupation from the land of Birhmanabad, installation of fencing or constructing boundary wall outside the heritage site. They also demanded that necessary staff should be hired to look after and the preservation of the stupa besides providing other facilities.
