The Issue: The Senate passing a bipartisan resolution to restore the formal dress code in the upper chamber.

Last week, Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer relaxed the dress code, but only for the senators, in deference to Sen. John Fetterman.

Staffers and everyone else on the floor still had to adhere to the original code (“Hobo ‘Fetterman Rule’ reversed,” Sept. 28).

This week, thanks to Sen. Joe Manchin, the Senate reversed Schumer’s relaxed dress code.

Thank you, Manchin.

Schumer is still a jerk.

In one of the few bipartisan efforts in recent memory, the US Senate has decided to reverse course on the Fetterman-coddling dress code that Sen. Schumer recently approved.

The next thing they need to change is to require members of the Senate to actually put the suit on and make it to the floor if you wish to cast your vote.

Allowing improperly attired members to shout their vote in from the cloakroom doorway is another farce to allow non-conforming members’ voices to be counted.

Restore dignity to the Senate body and correct this insanity.

Well, for once there’s good news from Washington.

Schumer’s decision that there was no need for senators to be dressed in suits and ties anymore on the floor was an outrage and disrespectful.

We all know this was done for the sake of Sen. Fetterman, who dresses in hoodies, gym shorts and sneakers.

However, it backfired on Sen. Schumer, as some senators preferred dressing in suits and ties over hoodies and shorts.

We have a victory here.

Sen. Fetterman: If you want to join your colleagues, then get your suit out of your closest, have it cleaned and pressed and wear it at the next meeting.

The reign of the “Fetterman Rule” was as brief as it was glorious.

But for one saggy moment, people came together to reject the sartorial standards of a body politic that is famously out of shape.

Like the delicate elastic band on a pair of oversized jogging shorts, Fetterman tried to stretch society forward.

This Icarus of Pennsylvania watched as his dream of a causal, comfortable future crashed back to earth, while empty suits everywhere rejoiced.

The Issue: The second round of debates for the Republican presidential primary candidates.

All the GOP debate needed to be an official circus was an elephant and a tent — because the clowns were already there (“Lame game show for also-rans,” Daniel McCarthy, Sept. 28).

They yell at each other, talk over each other and insult each other.

The moderators can’t control it.

It’s like an unruly class with a substitute teacher.

Yet almost every one of them, except former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, would be a better president than the pathetic, corrupt, incompetent liar we have in there now.

Either change the rules, eliminate some of them or stop debating.

This is a waste of time.

The debates need to be better controlled.

Everyone talking out of turn needs to be stopped.

I have the solution.

Those participating would be in soundproof glass booths on stage.

The moderators would ask the individual a question and give them three minutes to respond.

When their time ran out, their microphone would immediately be cut off.

If soundproof booths are not feasible, then shock collars would be used on anyone who spoke out of turn. That would definitely drive up the viewing audience.
