PkMAP calls for moot on economy

QUETTA:

Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai has called for a conference of all stakeholders to address the prevailing crisis that the country is facing. He made the demand while talking to reporters on the occasion of Pashtun Culture Day in Quetta on Saturday.

“I propose such a conference of all stakeholders including military personnel, politicians, journalists and judges to address the prevailing crisis”, Achakzai said.

He added that Pakistan was currently facing a serious crisis and the political leadership was unable to find a solution to overcome it.

The seasoned politician stated that political parties and alliances of the political forces had failed to deliver in the past as far as strengthening democracy and democratic institutions was concerned.

“They have failed the test with flying colours”, he noted, suggesting that all stakeholders put their heads together and take the country out of the financial crisis.

Without naming the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Mehmood Achakzai said that a mainstream political party had made a compromise in terms of the national reconciliation order (NRO) when all mainstream political parties had decided to restore democracy in the country at an all-parties conference in London.

“We should not repeat past mistakes and go ahead with a clear democratic principle”, the nationalist leader stated.

He urged all political parties to bury the hatchet and pave the way for democracy and supremacy of the Constitution in the country.

“PkMAP stands for the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law in this country”, he stressed, saying that no compromise would be made on democracy and democratic institutions in the country.

Without naming former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, Achakzai observed that it was not strange that a national leader had said that he had been a blue-eyed boy of the establishment for the last thirty years.

“It is not acceptable for me and my party that someone is calling himself a blue-eyed boy of the establishment to seek legitimacy for his rule,” he clarified.

He said all-out efforts would be made to strengthen democracy in the country despite all odds.
