Delhi Students’ Incredible Escape From Fire At Coaching Centre

Students used a rope to come down a caching centre in Delhi after fire.

Students at a coaching centre rappelled down the building after it caught fire in Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on Thursday. The fire was reported at 12.30pm.

Visuals showed smoke coming out of the top floor of the building and students sliding down using wires with bags on their backs. Four of them received minor injuries, the police said.

The students also made use of air conditioners installed on other floors while coming down.

According to news agency ANI, 11 fire engines were sent to the spot and officials helped the students get away from danger.

“We received info about a fire in a building. Later we came to know that it is a coaching centre and some children are trapped in it. We sent a total of 11 fire tenders to the spot. The fire has been brought under control,” Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg told the news agency.

The fire department launched a rescue operation and safely evacuated all the students. No casualty has been reported, said fire department officials.

According to the police, the fire broke out in an electricity metre and students started to panic due to the smoke emanating from the equipment and started rappelling down from the back side of the coaching centre.

Expressing concern over the fire incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said it was unfortunate but there was no need to panic.

“This fire incident is very unfortunate. Some students sustained minor injuries while trying to escape. Rest of the students are fine. There is no need to panic, Fire brigade has controlled the fire. District administration is present on the spot,” he tweeted.
