Burger King Closes 26 Outlets In Michigan, Leaving Over 400 Employees Jobless

Burger King fans in Michigan will soon have to find a new spot to satisfy their burger cravings. The fast-food chain is closing 26 restaurants across the state after EYM King, the Burger King franchisee in Michigan, failed to renew its deal with the company. As per Fox Business, the announcement was made recently, and The Daily Mail reports that the store closure began on March 17, 2023, and will continue throughout the next month of April. The franchisee cites “unforeseen business circumstances” for the closure and expects to shut down all 26 locations by April 15, 2023.

The Daily Mail report also states that EYM King of Michigan wrote a letter to the State Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, explaining the reason behind this significant step. According to the franchisee, they are ceasing operations “due to unforeseen business circumstances and their inability to reach a resolution with Burger King Corporation.”

Now, what could be the possible side effects of the closure of Burger King branches? Apart from the fact that people in Michigan will no longer be able to enjoy Burger King’s offerings, there is a risk of over 400 people losing their jobs. According to multiple reports, around 424 employees of Burger King, including general managers, shift managers, and team members, will be laid off.

The Burger King joints that are closing are located in several cities, including Detroit, Highland Park, Royal Oak, Southfield, Dearborn Heights, Ecorse, Ferndale, Flint, Livonia, Royal Oak, Walled Lake, Warren, and Whitmore Lake, as reported by USA Today.

In response to the situation, a spokesperson from Burger King informed Fox News that they are aware of the closure and declined to make any further comment “due to pending litigation.”
