Thanks to rapid globalisation and social media expansion, we now have some sort of idea of the best dishes and specialties from across the world. Be it the Greek salad or the Turkish baklava, these yummy goodies are commonly spotted by us on our daily social media scrolls. Recently, a dessert called ‘Tulumba’ surfaced on the sub-Reddit r/oddlysatisfying. Apparently hailing from Turkey, the making of the dessert was indeed quite satisfying to watch. But what caught our attention was the fact that this Turkish sweet was actually quite similar to the Indian jalebi! Take a look at the original video shared on Reddit:

The video was shared on Reddit by user u/solateor in the sub-Reddit r/oddlysatisfying. In the span of just one day, it has received over 52k upvotes and 2.3k comments. “Making tulumba in Turkey,” the video was captioned.

In the 49-second clip, we could see the making of this yummy Turkish dessert. First, a finely-ground paste was added to a metallic funnel. Then, the funnel poured out the batter into hot oil that started to sizzle immediately. Tongs were used to deep-fry the batter until it turned golden brown and crispy. Then, the tulumba was taken from the oil pan and submerged in a pan that seemed to be some kind of sugar syrup. The excess sugar was then removed and the dessert was cut up into pieces and packed into boxes. You can find the full recipe for Turkish Tulumba here.

A number of Reddit users reacted to the making of the Turkish dessert. “This is a funnel cake churro with a Turkish accent. I wonder how they taste? Turks are the masters of desertification,” wrote one user. “I am Turkish and we have smaller spirals that are not cut, so they are one piece and have all the crunch,” added another one. Desi Reddit users couldn’t resist pointing out that the dessert looked quite similar to the Indian jalebi. “I think a closer match to this would be the paneer jalebi than churros,” said one user while another wrote, “Closer to Imarti than Jalebi!”

This is not the only Jalebi-related news to have gone viral. Recently, a Columbian woman too tried Jalebi for the first time. Her reaction to the decadent Indian dessert was unmissable. Click here to read more about this story.
