Kudos to the left-leaning Gotham Gazette for noting that, nearly three years on, the Legislature hasn’t bothered to hold a hearing to assess the impact of its game-changing criminal-justice “reforms.” That’s pretty clear proof that state lawmakers don’t care about the (dreadful) facts.
Democrats keep whining that Republicans have “politicized” the no-bail law and other changes. But as the Gazette notes, the Legislature’s leaders have avoided “the possible clarity and accountability of a public hearing to take testimony from those officials or their representatives.”
Instead, Speaker Carl Heastie, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and their cronies cite supportive press analyses of the available data — while ignoring other analysis by The Post, the NYPD and independents like former Queens prosecutor Jim Quinn and even progressive Albany DA David Soares that show what a disaster the reforms have wrought.
Another dodge: Heastie recently asked NY1 host Errol Louis: “If bail reform is the reason why crime is increasing, then why is crime increasing at higher rates in red states, including the state of Texas?”

Well, Mr. Speaker, as Rafael Mangual explained in The Post, the red-state crime spikes are driven by violence in Democrat-run urban communities that did #Defund and elected “let ’em loose” DAs.
Gov. Kathy Hochul joins Heastie & Co. in denial, presumably because she opted against fighting for fixes to these laws as she was instead pushing the Legislature to OK her billion-dollar slush fund, Buffalo Bills giveaway and so on.
Since Hochul, Heastie & Co. refuse to even acknowledge the ample evidence of this disaster, New York voters this November have no choice but to oust Hochul in favor of Lee Zeldin — who has vowed to repeal those laws and to fire DAs who refuse to prosecute wrongdoers — and to vote against every Democratic legislator who isn’t denouncing their crime-loving leaders.
