Dems call for social media CEOs resolution for post-Trump raid threats

Democratic lawmakers need the heads of 8 social media firms to respond to questions on on-line threats to legislation enforcement within the wake of the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid previous this month.

The heads of Meta, Twitter, TikTook, Truth Social, Rumble, Gettr, Telegram, and Gab received letters from the House Oversight Committee Friday asking them in the event that they’ve observed an uptick in threats in opposition to legislation enforcement on their platforms and what they’re doing to prevent it.

“We urge you to take rapid motion to handle any threats of violence in opposition to legislation enforcement that seem for your corporate’s platforms,” the letter continues. 

The lawmakers cited a deadly Aug. 11 standoff in Ohio after a person wielding an AR-15 and a nail gun attempted to wreck into the FBI’s Cincinnati box administrative center, in addition to the arrest of a Pennsylvania guy previous this week who posted, “If You Work For The FBI Then You Deserve To Die” on Gab. 

“The Committee strongly helps the First Amendment rights of all Americans to talk out concerning the movements in their executive and legislation enforcement issues, together with on social media platforms,” Maloney and Lynch wrote. “However, threats and incitements of fatal violence are unacceptable and a criminal offense.”

Some Republicans have tweeted to defund the FBI following the raid.

Steve Scalise (R-La.) claiming in a Fox News interview that the FBI went “rogue” as examples of the GOP throwing gasoline at the fireplace. 

The firms have till Sept. 2 to provide paperwork to Congress at the choice of threats they’ve tracked for the reason that raid and their plan to handle the problem.
