‘The Walking Dead’ dog dies, cast pays tribute to their co-star

The cast of the popular TV show ‘The Walking Dead’ is mourning the loss of Seven, the dog who played the loyal canine companion to Daryl Dixon, portrayed by Norman Reedus.

Seven, who became a fan favorite, was commemorated in a post on the official The Walking Dead account that read, “Rest in peace, Seven. #TWD’s best boy.”

Norman Reedus, who has played Daryl Dixon throughout the series and continues to portray him in the spinoff ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’, led the tributes. On Instagram, Reedus shared photos of himself and Seven, writing, “Gonna miss u seven,” with a broken heart emoji and adding, “Best TV buddy ever.”

Other cast members also expressed their condolences. Lynn Collins (Leah) and Khary Payton (Ezekiel) shared their sentiments, as did Sabrina Gennarino (Tamiel) and Yvette Nicole Brown, who appeared on the show and hosted the ‘Talking Dead’ aftershow. Angela Kang, the final showrunner of the series, reposted the announcement with a simple message, “RIP Seven,” accompanied by a crying face emoji.

Reedus had advocated for his character to have a dog, a wish that was fulfilled in the ninth season. Daryl took in Dog after his original owner, Daryl’s love interest Leah, left him behind. Reedus spoke highly of working with Seven, sharing in 2018 that an impromptu change in a scene, influenced by the dog’s actions, resulted in a better outcome than originally planned. “We just did a scene the other day that ended up being the opposite of what it was supposed to be because the dog just wanted to do something else, and it came out so much better,” Reedus told ComicBook.com. “He’ll probably be running the show. It’s great! I love it. He loves me, too.”

‘The Walking Dead’, which aired on AMC from 2010 to 2022, starred Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Steven Yeun, and Melissa McBride, among others.
