The acting president of Temple University, JoAnne A. Epps, has died after collapsing during a memorial service Tuesday afternoon, the university said.

Epps, 72, became ill during the service, after which she was transported to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia for further treatment.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital around 3:15 p.m., the university said in a statement on its website.
