Broadway looks to be creeping back with a smattering of old favorites returning

Broadway’s looking good

GODBLESSUS Broadway is creeping back.

“Cabaret” is returning . . . While “Cinderella” may take her fairy Godmother plus her backers and go away, “The Wiz” returns. All black cast. Also “Evita.” All white cast. Also “Cats.” All drag cast. The critters will meow in a drag ball.

“Phantom” closes Sunday after almost 1,400 performances. But it’s no phantom. It’s returning. Unlike me, it’s getting a face-lift. And Thursday, NYl’s Frank DiLella will host an hourlong special called “The Phantom of the Opera — The Final Curtain.” It’ll include a sit-down with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Meanwhile, the new kid in town’s Alex Newell. A boy playing a girl in the just opened country corn musical “Shucked.” New Yorker Robert Horn (a Tony winner for “Tootsie”) wrote it.

Blue- and red-staters showed the day of Trump’s arraignment. Patty Smyth, Laurie Metcalf, Jane Krakowski, Susan Sarandon, Faith Hill, Trevor Noah — whose mask stayed on even for photos — and Rachel Dratch. The audience stood — mid-Act 1 — to give Newell a standing ovation.

Pay attention: He may even grab the lead in the coming show “Dreamgirls.”

While you’re there, do not miss “Peter Pan Goes Wrong” — at the Ethel Barrymore. It’s the same crew that produced the comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong.” Opens the 19th but was mobbed at a matinee I saw. Kids eating jelly beans, guys with backpacks, grandmas schlepping shopping bags — all laughing.

With what’s overtaking our city, state and country, this one’s good for us.

Some deep thinkers

Actor Sean Penn actually enjoys the gruff perception fans apparently have for him.WireImage

NICE Easter thoughts: “I like the public perception of me that makes people a little too scared to come to the table when I’m out having dinner.”

“Hardest being a supermodel is what goes through your head. You try for some thought so it’s no blank stare when they take your picture.”

“At my local Victoria’s Secret for 12 pair of underpants, they gave me no discount — $150 and they just wanted me to sign their catalog.”

— Rebecca Romijn

That’s very nice

A HANDSOME Easter scarf arrived with: “Inspired by Keechant Sewell, 45th Police Commissioner of the City of New York. Unique, designed by Nicole Miller, produced by Theory’s Kazumi Yanai, it includes the American flag, NYPD flag, Commissioner’s Shield, Roman numeral XLV, and her signature.” Silk, red, white and blue, the treasure comes with the Commissioner’s card. Thank you to our Top Cop.

Holiday reading

INTO a mystery book this holiday, grab Harlan Coben’s “I Will Find You.” It’s great. Now on the best seller list . . . Love William Kennedy? He’s selling his historic Albany house (where “Legs” Diamond was shot) for 500 thou, give or take a few bucks — plus a copy of his Pulitzer winner “Ironweed.”

Take care, Ron

A Floridian previously committing $1 million is bailing on Ron DeSantis: “He’s coming across like a wet armpit. He just lost a wrestling match with Minnie Mouse. He wants to be president when he grows up, but first he has to grow up. As popular as a yarmulke salesman in Damascus, he should first try to make it up with Disney.”

His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan’s “Easter Prayer” card reads: “We pray O Lord, that you would grant us a season of peace at this time of Easter gladness — and Easter Blessings.”

And not only in New York, kids, not only in New York.
